Nairobi Protesters Demand Action on Femicide, Missing Children

(MENAFN) Thousands of people, the majority of them women, took to the streets of Nairobi on Monday to demand stronger government measures against the growing number of femicide cases and child disappearances in Kenya. Organizers urged President William Ruto to officially recognize the issue as a national emergency.

According to reports, the demonstration was organized by the End Femicide movement in partnership with women's rights groups, human rights organizations and advocates for child protection. The large turnout caused major disruptions to traffic throughout sections of Nairobi’s central business district.

Protesters marched through key roads carrying signs bearing messages such as “End Femicide,” “Enough is Enough,” “Stop Killing Women,” and “End Pedicide.” The event later transitioned into a memorial gathering dedicated to victims of violence and disappearances.

Former Kenyan Chief Justice David Maraga joined protesters in Nairobi, lending his voice to calls for stronger action against femicide and child disappearances.

According to reports, many participants wore white clothing and carried red roses as a symbol of remembrance. During the ceremony, attendees gathered around symbolic coffins decorated with flower petals in an emotional tribute to women and children who had lost their lives or gone missing.

A memorial wall displaying the names of victims was erected at the center of the event beneath the message “Stop Femicide in Kenya.”

According to reports, organizers used the gathering to highlight concerns over the increasing number of gender-based killings and unresolved child disappearance cases, while calling for greater accountability and more effective protective measures from authorities.
